Carbon Theory

Carbon Theory Soap seemed to explode on social media with it’s iconic black soap bar that claimed to the able prevent breakouts and clear up your skin!

What did I purchase from the range?

I had to try the carbon soap as I had heard so much about it, and also I picked up the Facial Purifying Tonic, Facial Moisturiser and the Mineral Mud Mask.

What does the range promise to do to your skin?

Each item promises to be lab-formulated to get toxins out while keeping nourishment in. The skin care range is targeted towards more blemish prone skin, without the drying out that tends to occurs with similar ranges.

Did the routine work for my skin?

After removing my makeup using a micellar water, I started with the Carbon Theory Soap that contains charcoal and tea tree oil. This treatment has been ‘dermatologically proven to prevent breakouts and keep your skin clear, balanced and hydrated’. Running the bar under water and rubbing it up into a lather before apply the lather to my face. The bar bubbles up really easily and leaves your skin feeling extremely clean and oil free.

Next moving on to the Facial Purifying Tonic, containing tea tree oil and pink grapefruit extract. This product should deep cleanse, reduce pores and minimise shine. Sweeping across my entire face with one cotton pad (avoiding my eyes, trust me!). I could instantly feel this working on my face, especially on my areas of breakout and dry skin around my nose.

Finally, I ended the daily routine with the Facial Moisturiser formulated with vitamin E and tea tree oil to double the breakout protection and hydrating my skin. Although it feels like a standard moisturiser consistency, it didn’t soak into my skin at all. Although it spread easily across my face, it didn't soak in straight away leaving me feeling as though I was moving it around my face. This wasn’t an issue in the evening as I could allow the product to soak in over time which it eventually did, but it isn’t that practical for the morning or my morning routine.

Each week I have also been using the Mineral Mud Mask which is a treat for my skin. It is an intensive treatment that deeply nourishes, repairing the skin, and detoxifies to control possible breakouts. It’s easy to apply, the packaging for this product is very convenient, you can use either your finger or a face mask spatular. I tried both options successfully, and had plenty of product for multiple uses.

Will I be repurchasing?

Yes and no. I will and already have repurchased the Facial Purifying Tonic, I love this product and it will remain in my skin care routine. I still haven’t finished but will continue to use the Mineral Mud Mask and would recommend this product to any friends with monthly breakout problems.

Unfortunately for me the legendary Carbon Theory Soap didn’t work for me, it made me breakout more, which although can be expected initially after a month of use, I would expect the product to start to make a difference. And finally the Facial Moisturiser, did work but just took too long to soak in. What can I say… maybe I’m just too impatient and this may suit other skin types more. For my skin there are other moisturisers I use that have the same result without the wait!
